Amazon EC2 C5d instances are now available in three new sizes: 12xlarge, 24xlarge, and Bare Metal. These new instances offer high-speed local NVMe-based SSD block level storage physically connected to the host server and are powered by custom second-generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors (Cascade Lake) with sustained all-core turbo frequency of 3.6 GHz and maximum single core turbo frequency of 3.9 GHz. Cascade Lake processors provide support for the new Intel Vector Neural Network Instructions (AVX-512 VNNI) which will help speed up typical machine learning operations like convolution, and automatically improve inference performance over a wide range of deep learning workloads.
Manage your Amazon API Gateway limits with AWS Service Quotas
You can now view and manage your limits for Amazon API Gateway using AWS Service Quotas. Quotas, also referred to as limits, are the maximum number of resources that you can create in an AWS account. With API Gateway’s integration with AWS Service Quotas, you can view and manage your quotas easily and at scale as your API workloads grow.
Amazon AppStream 2.0 launches self-guided workshop to build an application onboarding portal
Today, Amazon AppStream 2.0 released a self-guided workshop that enables the AWS administrators for a company to build an application onboarding portal that allows application teams to self-service onboard to AppStream 2.0. The application onboarding portal uses the breadth of AWS services to enable application administrators to create the AppStream 2.0 image and fleet without accessing the AWS Management Console using the best practices and security boundaries created by the AWS administrator. This project series provides step-by-step guidance that demonstrates how you can use AppStream 2.0 for this scenario. To get started, see AppStream 2.0 enterprise workshops.
New Feature Enables Visibility of Employees’ AWS Certification Completions
We are excited to announce the release of a new feature that will provide APN Partner organizations with increased visibility of their employees’ AWS Certification data. Enabled only when an employee consents to sharing that data, this feature is designed to help APN Partner organizations better match the needs of their customers. Employers can track which AWS Certifications their employees are earning, as well as which APN Partner Program Knowledge tier requirements are being met by their organization.
EC2 Hibernation feature is now available to customers in the Middle East (Bahrain) AWS Region
The EC2 Hibernation feature is now available in the Middle East (Bahrain) AWS Region. Hibernation gives you the ability to launch EC2 instances, set them up as desired, hibernate them, and then quickly bring them back to life when you need them. Applications pick up exactly where they left off instead of rebuilding their memory footprint. Using hibernate, you can maintain a fleet of pre-warmed instances that can get to a productive state faster, and you can do this without modifying your existing applications.
New version of SageMaker XGBoost algorithm available
Customers can now use a new version of the SageMaker XGBoost algorithm that is based on version 0.90 of the open-sourced XGBoost framework. XGBoost is a highly efficient and flexible algorithm for problems in regression, classification, and ranking.
AWS RoboMaker now supports conditional over-the-air deployment
AWS RoboMaker, a service that makes it easy to develop, simulate, and deploy robotics applications, now supports conditional over-the-air (OTA) deployment for fleet management. This new feature allows developers to specify a pre-check condition during deployment so that you can have more granular control over the deployment process. For example, you can specify a condition to be a certain level of battery. The deployment will only be triggered if the battery level on a robot meets the specified condition.
Amazon AppStream 2.0 adds support for embedding streaming sessions within websites
You can now stream your desktop applications to an IFrame within your webpages. You can also customize the user experience using the AppStream 2.0 Embed JS SDK. For example, you can show or hide the AppStream 2.0 menu options within the session toolbar, or the entire session toolbar itself. And, you can register event callbacks to session state changes, and end sessions programmatically. To learn more, visit our documentation .
Amazon S3 Inventory now reports the Intelligent-tiering access tier for objects
Customers can now use Amazon S3 Inventory to report the access tier of objects stored in the S3 Intelligent-Tiering storage class. S3 Intelligent-Tiering is a new storage class that makes it easy for developers and IT infrastructure managers to reduce costs on storage when access patterns change without sacrificing performance or availability. It works by storing objects in one of two access tiers: one tier that is optimized for Frequent access, and another lower-cost tier that is optimized for Infrequent access. You can now use S3 Inventory to view the access tier of your Intelligent-Tiering objects in all AWS Regions.
Amazon CloudFront in China announces support for AWS CloudFormation and real-time metrics in Amazon CloudWatch
Amazon CloudFront in China announces support for AWS CloudFormation templates and Amazon CloudWatch real-time metrics. With this launch, customers in China can now use CloudFormation templates to create CloudFront distributions with Amazon S3 origins or custom origins. CloudFormation simplifies provisioning and management on AWS. Customers can create templates for their desired service or application architectures and use those templates for reliable and repeatable provisioning. Customers can find sample templates and template snippets on the AWS CloudFormation Templates page.
