Ed Joins The Trump Love-Fest
The PM’s really fired up by Trump’s victory, Ed confides to his diary, is the vicar’s daughter titillated by the thought of cosying up to a rough-hewn Yankee builder? I don’t know, but in Cabinet she seems to go a shade pinker when he’s mentioned. Anyway, we’ve all been told to come up with ways …

TCXO achieves ±0.5ppm over -40 to +85°C
IQD’s new analogue ASIC-based temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) is tested using one frequency reading every two degrees centigrade over the full operating temperature range. “This, combined with a high order compensation circuit, delivers a frequency stability as tight as ±0.5ppm over -40 to +85°C,” said the firm. Called IQXT-274, it comes in a 3.2 x …

Germanium transistors show promise again
Researchers at the University of Tokyo have used metal germanides at the metal-germanium interface, with suitable surface crystal planes, to improve contact resistance and device performance in germanium transistors. Germanium has high electron and hole mobilities, and has been demonstrated in MISFETs (metal-insulator-semiconductor FETs), but parasitic resistance and off-state leakage at the source-drain inhibit performance. …
