Customers are now able to use three Availability Zones (AZs) in the EU (Frankfurt) Region. We launched the third AZ in response to continued growth in the use of AWS in Germany and to provide customers with additional flexibility to architect applications across multiple AZs in Germany for high availability and fault tolerance. This launch brings AWS’s global AZ total to 43 AZs within 16 geographic Regions around the world.

Amazon Aurora is now available to customers in the AWS EU (Frankfurt) region. This increases the number of available regions to twelve, giving you another option for database placement, availability and scalability.

We are excited to announce that Amazon CloudWatch Events now supports Amazon Kinesis Firehose as a target. Amazon CloudWatch Events enables you to respond quickly to application availability issues or configuration changes that might impact performance or security by notifying you of AWS resource changes in near-real-time. You simply write rules to indicate which events are of interest to your application and what automated action to take when a rule matches an event. You can, for example, invoke AWS Lambda functions or notify an Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS) topic.

AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT) can now export data from a wider range of commercial data warehouses. You can convert and extract data from legacy versions of Teradata (version 13 and above) and Oracle Data Warehouse (version 10g and above) for direct import into Amazon Redshift, without first performing an in-place upgrade.
