You can now unload the result of an Amazon Redshift query to your Amazon S3 data lake as Apache Parquet , an efficient open columnar storage format for analytics. The Parquet format is up to 2x faster to unload and consumes up to 6x less storage in Amazon S3, compared to text formats. This enables you to save data transformation and enrichment you have done in Amazon Redshift into your Amazon S3 data lake in an open format. You can then analyze your data with Redshift Spectrum and other AWS services such as Amazon Athena, Amazon EMR, and Amazon SageMaker.

Amazon Augmented AI (Amazon A2I) makes it easy to build the workflows required for human review of ML predictions. A2I brings human review to all developers, removing the undifferentiated heavy lifting associated with building human review systems or managing large numbers of human reviewers.  

AWS Transit Gateway now supports the ability to establish peering connections between Transit Gateways in different AWS Regions. Transit Gateway is a service that enables customers to connect thousands of Amazon Virtual Private Clouds (Amazon VPCs) and their on-premises networks using a single gateway. With AWS Transit Gateway, customers only have to create and manage a single connection from a central regional gateway to each Amazon VPC, on premises data center, or remote office across their networks.

AWS Transit Gateway now enables you to centrally manage and monitor your global network across AWS and on premises, with network manager. Transit Gateway network manager reduces the operational complexity of managing networks across AWS Regions and remote locations.

AWS Transit Gateway now supports routing internet protocol (IP) multicast traffic between attached Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) connections. Multicast delivers a single stream of data to many users simultaneously, and is a preferred protocol to stream multimedia content and subscription data to a group of subscribers. With support for IP multicast, Transit Gateway makes it easy for customers to build multicast applications in the cloud and easily monitor, manage, and scale multicast configurations up to hundreds of receivers.

Today, AWS announced Amazon Kendra, a new highly accurate and easy to use enterprise search service powered by machine learning. Kendra provides a more intuitive way to search, using natural language, and returns more accurate answers so your end users can discover information stored within the vast amount of content spread across your company. Users can ask questions like “How long is maternity leave?” and get a specific answer such as “14 weeks”, or “How do I configure my VPN?” and get a specific passage extracted from a document describing the process. With Kendra, you can provide pinpoint search accuracy from content within your manuals, research reports, FAQs, HR documentation, customer service guides, and more.

You can now associate route tables with internet gateway and virtual private gateway, and redirect incoming and outgoing Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) traffic through virtual appliances in your VPC.

Today we are announcing the opening of an AWS Local Zone in Los Angeles (LA), California. The LA Local Zone is a new type of AWS infrastructure deployment that places compute, storage, and other select services closer to customers, giving developers the ability to run applications that require single-digit millisecond latencies to end-users in LA.

The in-preview Amazon Redshift Federated Query feature allows you to query and analyze data across operational databases, data warehouses, and data lakes. With Federated Query, you can now integrate queries on live data in Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL with queries across your Amazon Redshift and Amazon S3 environments.

Amazon Detective is a new service in Preview that makes it easy to analyze, investigate, and quickly identify the root cause of potential security issues or suspicious activities. Amazon Detective automatically collects log data from your AWS resources and uses machine learning, statistical analysis, and graph theory to build a linked set of data that enables you to easily conduct faster and more efficient security investigations.
