Amazon Web Services is announcing starting today, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) I7ie instances are now available in AWS US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon) regions. Designed for large storage I/O intensive workloads, I7ie instances are powered by 5th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with an all-core turbo frequency of 3.2 GHz, offering up to 40% better compute performance and 20% better price performance over existing I3en instances. I7ie instances offer up to 120TB local NVMe storage density (highest in the cloud) for storage optimized instances and offer up to twice as many vCPUs and memory compared to prior generation instances. Powered by 3rd generation AWS Nitro SSDs, I7ie instances deliver up to 65% better real-time storage performance, up to 50% lower storage I/O latency, and 65% lower storage I/O latency variability compared to I3en instances.
I7ie are high density storage optimized instances, ideal for workloads requiring fast local storage with high random read/write performance at very low latency consistency to access large data sets. These instances are available in 9 different virtual sizes and deliver up to 100Gbps of network bandwidth and 60Gbps of bandwidth for Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS).

AWS Secrets Manager now supports Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), Dualstack compatibility for Virtual Private Cloud through AWS PrivateLink . With this, Secrets Manager is now fully compatible for IPv6 connectivity in all commercial regions via PrivateLink networking.
IPv6 addresses global increase in the demand for internet connected devices, without the need for NAT and is largely scalable. With simultaneous support for both IPv4 and IPv6 clients on Secrets Manager endpoints, you are able to gradually transition from IPv4 to IPv6 based systems and applications, without needing to switch all over at once. This also enables you to meet IPv6 compliance requirements. With this launch, you can choose to connect using the new protocol over both the public internet and via PrivateLink.
IPv6 support for Secrets Manager is available for PrivateLink endpoints in all commercial regions, China regions, and the AWS GovCloud (US) Regions. Refer to Secrets Manager documentation for more details.

Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL-Compatible Edition now supports PostgreSQL versions 16.6, 15.10, 14.15, 13.18, and 12.22. Please note, this release supports the versions released by the PostgreSQL community on November 21,2024 and not the previous November 14,2024 release. These releases contain product improvements and bug fixes made by the PostgreSQL community, along with Aurora-specific security and feature improvements such as improved read replica upgrades for reduced downtime, new features for Babelfish and improved Global Database cross-region resiliency for better read availability during unplanned events.
As a reminder, Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL 12 standard support ends on Feb 28, 2025. You can either upgrade to a newer major version or continue to run Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL 12 past the end of standard support date with RDS Extended Support.
These releases are now available in all commercial AWS regions and AWS GovCloud (US) Regions, except China regions. You can initiate a minor version upgrade by modifying your DB cluster. Please review the Aurora documentation to learn more. For a full feature parity list across regions, head to our feature parity page .
Amazon Aurora is designed for unparalleled high performance and availability at global scale with full MySQL and PostgreSQL compatibility. It provides built-in security, continuous backups, serverless compute, up to 15 read replicas, automated multi-Region replication, and integrations with other AWS services. AWS customers can now access the Llama 3.3 70B model from Meta through Amazon SageMaker JumpStart. The Llama 3.3 70B model balances high performance with computational efficiency. It also delivers output quality comparable to larger Llama versions while requiring significantly fewer resources, making it an excellent choice for cost-effective AI deployments.
Llama 3.3 70B features an enhanced attention mechanism that substantially reduces inference costs. Trained on approximately 15 trillion tokens, including web-sourced content and synthetic examples, the model underwent extensive supervised fine-tuning and Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF). This approach aligns outputs more closely with human preferences while maintaining high performance standards. According to Meta, this efficiency gain translates to nearly five times more cost-effective inference operations, making it an attractive option for production deployments.
Customers can deploy Llama 3.3 70B through the SageMaker JumpStart user interface or programmatically using the SageMaker Python SDK. SageMaker AI’s advanced inference capabilities help optimize both performance and cost efficiency for your deployments, allowing you to take full advantage of Llama 3.3 70B’s inherent efficiency while benefiting from a streamlined deployment process.
The Llama 3.3 70B model is available in all AWS Regions where Amazon SageMaker AI is available. To learn more about deploying Llama 3.3 70B on Amazon SageMaker JumpStart, see the documentation or read the blog.

Today, Amazon Elastic Container Registry (Amazon ECR) announces registry policy v2 which now supports managing IAM permissions for all ECR API actions. This new registry policy makes it easier for customers to control usage of ECR capabilities within their accounts.
ECR registry policy allows customers to control usage of ECR private registries by granting permissions to perform registry-level actions to an AWS IAM principal. Registry policy version 1 (v1), only supported three actions: ReplicateImage, BatchImportUpstreamImage, and CreateRepository. Now, the new registry policy version 2 (v2) supports every ECR action. Using registry policy v2 makes it easier for customers to control permissions across all repositories in an ECR registry, allowing them to improve their security posture and save time versus configuring permissions individually across multiple repositories.
ECR registry policy v2 is now available for all ECR registries in all AWS commercial regions. You can migrate from registry policy v1 to v2 using the ECR management console or with the new ECR put-account-setting
API. New ECR accounts will automatically use registry policy v2. To learn more about ECR’s registry policy and permissions, see our documentation
