Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS) now includes integrated service discovery that makes it easy for your containerized services to discover and connect with each other.
Amazon RDS now supports M4 instances in GovCloud for MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and Oracle engines
Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) for MySQL ,MariaDB ,PostgreSQL , and Oracle now allows you to launch M4 instances in the AWS GovCloud (US) region. Amazon RDS is a managed database service that makes it easy to set up, operate, and scale a relational database in the cloud.
Amazon RDS M4 instances have a good balance of compute, memory, and network resources, and have superior performance and generally lower prices than M3 instances. To learn more about the benefits of the M4 instance type for Amazon RDS, visit the DB Instance Classes documentation .
You can create new M4 database instances with just a few clicks using the “Launch DB Instance” wizard in the AWS Management Console . To migrate an existing instance, ensure the instance is running a database engine version supported on M4, and then use the “Modify DB Instance” option.

Maxim uSLIC modules deliver swiching regulators in LDO form factor
Micro system-level IC (“uSLIC”) modules from Maxim claim to deliver switching regulators with the size and simplicity of a linear regulator (LDO). The MAXM17532 and MAXM15462 power modules measure 2.6mm x 3.0mm x 1.5mm. Maxim’s uSLIC power modules shrink the power supply by 2.25x with an ultra-small package size, achieved by integrating a synchronous wide-input …

Wearable quantum brain scanner developed by University of Nottingham
Brain scanning is not possible through a hat, according to the University of Nottingham. The technique used is magnetoencephalography (MEG), which senses the tiny magnetic fields created by electrical signals in the brain. Once, this would have required bulky super-cooled equipment because it needed ‘squids’ – superconducting quantum interference devices – as sensors. In these …

Container-scale battery for grid support
Murata has developed a container-scale energy storage system for instantaneous voltage drop countermeasures, and will market it with Japan Facility Solutions. “A momentary drop in power system voltage such as due to lightning strikes to power transmission lines may have a large impact, such as the stoppage of production lines in factories,” said Murata. “Furthermore, …
