Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) for SQL Server now supports Cumulative Update 19 (CU19 – 16.0.4195.2) for SQL Server 2022. This CU includes performance improvements and bug fixes, and is available for SQL Server Express, Web, Standard, and Enterprise editions. Review the Microsoft release notes for CU19 for details.

We recommend that you upgrade to this latest CU to benefit from the performance improvements and bug fixes. You can upgrade with just a few clicks in the Amazon RDS Management Console or by using the AWS SDK or CLI. Learn more about upgrading your database instances from the Amazon RDS User Guide .

You can now view a global summary of policies that grant external access to buckets across your AWS account, directly from the Amazon S3 console. This summary lets you identify S3 buckets in any AWS Region that allow public access or access from other AWS accounts, without needing to inspect policies in each AWS Region individually.

The External access summary is powered by AWS IAM Access Analyzer and is available at no additional cost in the S3 console in all AWS Regions. Visit the S3 User Guide to learn more.

Amazon DocumentDB (with MongoDB compatibility) Global Clusters now supports adding up to 10 secondary Regions, further enhancing scalability and availability for globally distributed applications.

Amazon DocumentDB Global Clusters spans multiple AWS Regions, providing disaster recovery from Region-wide outages and enabling fast local reads for globally distributed applications. This launch increases the number of secondary Regions that can be added to a global cluster from the previously supported limit of up to 5 secondary Regions to up to 10 secondary Regions, providing a larger global footprint for operating your applications. The AWS Price List Query API now supports four new filter types, giving you more precise ways to search product data. With the new filters, you can now search products by exactly matching attributes, using sub-string matches, or creating include/exclude lists for more targeted results.

These new filters simplify product discovery, enabling more efficient data retrieval. You can now easily find specific groups of products—such as all m5 EC2 instance types—with a single, streamlined filter instead of creating multiple complex queries.

The new filter capabilities are available in all regions where the AWS Price List API is supported.

Today, AWS announces the general availability of Custom Instructions for Q&A topics in Amazon Q in QuickSight.

Custom Instructions enables Author Pros to curate Amazon Q’s responses to questions by adding domain-specific knowledge that can’t be captured through a topic’s metadata settings, such as synonyms or semantic types. By providing these metadata descriptions or custom instructions, Authors can guide Amazon Q to align its responses with distinct definitions, preferences, and expert knowledge—ensuring more accurate, relevant, and tailored answers that are better suited for their business needs.

Custom Instructions are available to Amazon Q in QuickSight Pro Author and Pro Admin users in all supported regions .

Today, AWS announces the release of the Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for AWS Price List , now available in the AWS Labs GitHub repository .

The MCP server provides AI agents with real-time access to AWS product data, availability information and pricing details, including on-demand, reserved, and savings plans. With this launch, you can leverage AI assistants, including Amazon Q Developer CLI, and Claude Desktop, to retrieve AWS product and pricing information, compare pricing options across regions, and make data-driven decisions about AWS service selections – all through natural language conversations.

You can download and integrate the open-source server with your preferred MCP-compatible AI assistant. The server connects securely to the AWS Price List using standard AWS credentials with minimal configuration required. To get started, visit the AWS Labs GitHub repository .

Amazon MQ is now available in a new region, Asia Pacific (Taipei) Region. With this launch, Amazon MQ is now available in a total of 37 regions.
